So we have all heard of them, seen them, maybe you know someone that has one.. Himalayan Salt Lamps are a craze that came about more recently. My husband a couple years back got me a nightlight version of one for Christmas. Little did I know how handy it would be once our son was born.
I absolutely LOVE it.
I have a somewhat unhealthy obsession with candles but I don’t like to burn them in our bedroom.. This little guy has a warm glow that illuminates the room in the evening when we are winding down for the night and I find it so calming. The internet also shares a lot of information about the benefits of having a salt lamp in your home. Here are a few I have found: (I have no scientific evidence to back this, just personal experience and info I have found along the way..)
- Air Purifying – releases negative ions that attract to dust and allergens in the air
- Stress Relieving/Sleep Aid – dim red/orange lighting is the least disruptive color to our circadian rhythms
- Radiation Protection – Salt lamps neutralize EMF’s being radiated from our appliances, TV’s, computers and mobile devices
One benefit that I have witnessed first hand is that this thing really does it’s job pulling dust and allergens out of the air. I vacuum our bedroom once a week (I will share my Sunday plan of attack in a future post) and it is the one room in the whole house that I am able to FILL the vacuum.. GROSS. But I’m also weirdly satisfied at how much I am able to pull out of the carpet on a weekly basis in there.
So for us, YES, they definitely do their job.
Now, our son was born in November (Stinker was supposed to be our October baby but decided to keep cookin’ for an extra couple of weeks) and we use this as his nightlight. The glow that it gives off isn’t harsh like a lot of the LED nightlights out there but it’s still enough light to get through a middle-of-the-night diaper change or bottle feeding without having to turn on a lamp or overhead light.
Here is the link to the ones we purchased: 2 Pack Himalayan Salt Lamp Nightlight
I highly recommend this for any room in your home, especially making a nursery feel cozy. –I also purchased these for my brother-in-law for Christmas. He put them in his kitchen and bathroom and he says he loves the glow in the evening when he is relaxing after a long day at work.
Try them for yourself and get your Zen on!
